NEANIAS at the European Multidisciplinary Seafloor and water column Observatory (EMSO).

Athens, 12-14/02/2020.

A good representation of NEANIAS Project, NKUA and ATHENA R.C., attended EMSO ERIC (European Multidisciplinary Seafloor and water column Observatory) conference on 12-14/02/2020 to present the project and exhibit the service proposal of NEANIAS.

EMSO aims to explore the oceans, to gain a better understanding of phenomena happening within and below them, and to explain the critical role that these phenomena play in the broader Earth systems.

The conference aims to offer an international scientific framework to increase the coordination and the effectiveness of international cooperation worldwide. By stimulating the exchange of information, best practices, and strategy alignment, the conference is designed to contribute to the improvement of the conditions for sustainable development and fulfilment of societal needs, increasing the awareness of the importance of the Ocean’s health.

The main conference themes include (i) Ocean Health and Biodiversity, (ii) Climate change, (iii) Hazards (natural and anthropogenic) and (iv) Blue economy.

These topics are broadly considered in NEANIAS challenges, both from a project strategy perspective, from the scientific objectives particularly included in some work packages (WP2 underwater research services, WP3 atmospheric research services or WP4 space research services), and for IT infrastructures and integration.

As a result, NEANIAS project has been able to enrich and expand their knowledge about the needs, actions, and roadmaps of key players, while reinforcing the networking and explaining our proposal.
