NEANIAS work plan captures all activities of the project required in order not only to drive the technical and scientific results foreseen, but also to assure the quality of those results and the achievement of maximum impact and sustainability, via engagement of stakeholders and introduction of innovative business perspectives.

The work plan sets the means to assure that the project objectives are achieved timely and through optimal mobilization of the limited allocated resources. The activities of the project are broken down to work packages that group together tasks (and activities) that are strongly interconnected and need to be executed under a common leadership and teaming.

Three work packages, oriented to research communities (Research Case Activities) in three physical sectors are included: WP2 - Underwater Research Services, WP3 - Atmospheric Research Services and WP4 - Space Research Services. Each sector, although incorporating several disciplines exposes commonalities in instruments, flows or data sets for conducting field research. Each work package starts with the layout of the sector and the gaps in services, on the basis of the findings that motivate this proposal; proceeds with the realization of thematic services in the new landscape and on the foundations of the already existing mature toolkits employed by the research communities in focus; commences with the assessment of the results of the technical work from the community standpoint. As all research selected sectors share common needs, and in the direction of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, communication and exchange of knowledge and tools among sectors is essential for the success of the project.

One work package (WP5- Business innovation cases) dedicated to services that address the needs of business sectors, that encompasses both industry and the public sector perspectives, be it policy making, governance or other directions. The main focus of this work package is the alignment of the WP2 - WP3 - WP4 services to the business cases in question, in innovative flows, rather than the development of new services. This dictates the main flow of information from Research Case Activities to WP5. Similarly, assessment of project results from the business perspective, is essential for the sustainability of the project outcome.

Complementing the Use Case Activities to form the overall Implementation Activities, comes WP1.a.i.6 Core Services Foundation and Implementation, that establishes generic, cross-community services that amplify the potential of thematic services, enable Open Science, and facilitate the migration to the EOSC concepts, by streamlining access to cloud resources. Although this work package does not deal with EOSC integration per se, it does lay the architectural and technological foundations for its achievement in WP71.a.i.8.

Implementation Activities provide the substrate for Service Delivery Activities (WP8), i.e., the activities that deliver the necessary final steps to provide the services to their users. Two key priorities are operational quality and EOSC integration. The task of EOSC integration and its various facets with respect to service description and registration, marketplace placement, pricing, as well as other essential tasks are handled by WP7 1.a.i.8EOSC Integration. Both work packages WP7 and WP8 provide essential directives and feedback to Implementation Activities.

European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) programme faces the challenge of developing an agile, fit-for-purpose and sustainable service offering that can satisfy the evolving needs of the scientific community by stimulating the design and prototyping of novel innovative digital services.

NEANIAS (Novel EOSC Services for Emerging Atmosphere, Underwater & Space Challenges) is an ambitious project that comprehensively addresses the challenges set out in the ‘Roadmap for EOSC’ foreseen actions.

NEANIAS has promoted Open Science practices and played active role in the materialization of the EOSC ecosystem by efficiently engaging large scientific and professional communities and actively contributing to the technological, procedural, strategic and business development of EOSC.

NEANIAS has driven the co-design and delivery of innovative thematic services, derived from state-of-the-art research assets and practices in three major sectors: Underwater research, Atmospheric research and Space research, each engaging a wide variety of academic and business groups, numerous researchers, professionals and governmental entities. Moreover, NEANIAS has identified and promoted cutting-edge business cases across several user communities and laid out several concrete exploitation opportunities.
