NEANIAS Workshop on Atmospheric services.

Athens & Online, 29/06/2022.

NEANIAS organized the Atmospheric-workshop with the aim of presenting the project’s activities in the field of open science and especially the atmosphere.

NEANIAS project and ATHENA RC organized the Atmospheric Workshop at the Department of Physics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with the aim of presenting the work that is active in the field of open science and in particular the atmosphere. The event emphasized in the atmospheric sector, giving the opportunity to the participants to explore and use the innovative atmospheric services of the project:

  • ATMO-FLUD: Delivers an operational workflow for calculating flux density and fluxes of gases, aerosol, energy from data obtained by specifically set meteorological stations. With the business of producing energy or resources through industry facilities, communities have the ability to calculate GHG emissions, specific pollutant fluxes as well as energy fluxes, to ensure compliance with regulations and benchmark their environmental and energy performance.

  • ATMO-STRESS: Fills the the geological community need of the implementation of a service capable of calculating and visualize the stress trajectories in plan and 3D view correlating the distance of the earthquake epicentre and hypocentre location from the crater, the tectonic stress characteristics (fault kinematics trajectories of the principal stresses obtainable from the earthquake focal mechanism solution), and the Magnitude of the seismic event.

  • ATMO-4CAST: Forecasting local weather conditions and air quality that can provide crucial information and products to a variety of stakeholder in agriculture, urban/ city authorities, health, insurance agencies and relative governmental authorities.

During the event the project’s objectives and services were presented through the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) with emphasis on the atmospheric sector, giving the opportunity to the participants to explore and use the innovative atmospheric services of the project. Coordinator of the Workshop was Professor Theodoros Mertzimekis while his team (14 scientists) evaluated the services in real time while giving useful comments to NEANIAS. After discussions with Dr. Gazeas Kosmas of the Department of Astrophysics will be given the opportunity for upcoming workshops in the astrophysical sector of the project.

In addition, on June 28 in the afternoon at the Athena RC and at 29 in the Corallia and CERTH teams of researchers also tested and the atmospheric services of NEANIAS helping the project improving them and giving a total of 60 new validations!
