Copernicus Hackathon 2020 awards at Athena RC premises.

On Friday 19.6.2020, at ATHENA RC premises, NEANIAS project representatives, welcomed representatives of winning teams of the Athens CopHackOn 2020.

NEANIAS project representatives, Eleni Petra, PM, Prof. Konstantinos Karantzalos Steering Committee Scientific Coordinator, Prof. Evi Nomikou, WP2 leader, Prof. Spyros Rapsomanikis, WP3 Leader (remotely), Dr. George Papastefanatos, WP8 leader and Mr. Panos Spyrou from Corallia (remotely) welcomed representatives of the two winning teams of the Athens CopHackOn 2020 and had the opportunity to discuss about the teams’ applications as well as their future plans and get their award, a laptop PC and NEANIAS souvenirs.

The SeaTrip - Team 03 which won the 1st prize, with 3 members at ATHENA RC premises and 3 by remote connection had the opportunity to present again their basic idea for the design and implementation of an application for a real time integrated investigation solution for recreational sea routing using Copernicus Sentinel data.

Specific mentoring tips have been given by all NEANIAS team to the SeaTrip Team which intends to develop further their application

One member from Covid6gang - Team 11 and 3 members from the same team connected remotely and presented again their idea which got the 2nd prize of the Athens CopHackOn 2020. Their web application, “Track the virus”, collects climate data and provides useful information about virus transmission.

Special advice and directions have been also provided to this team and an invitation for a relevant forthcoming conference in September 2020.

The team that got the 3rd prize of Athens CopHackOn 2020, UoP received the award (laptop again) by mail since they are undergraduate students and are hardly studying for their summer exams. The third team was also involved in the challenge related to COVID-19. The idea was around the COVID-19 and an efficient combination of atmospheric models and current disease data for a production of an efficient prediction model.
