Online, 14-16/12/2020.

On December 14-16, 2020, the EU International Ocean Governance Forum 2020 was held online.

The European Commission and the European External Action Service invited global stakeholders to discuss ocean challenges and to define action-oriented solutions towards global sustainability objectives at the EU International Ocean Governance Forum 2020: Setting the Course for a Sustainable Blue Planet.

The December 14-16 IOG Forum event took stock and further discussed the contributions and proposals made during the first series of webinars and workshops that took place between April and July 2020, and during the online consultation conducted from July to October. Participants discussed how the IOG Forum could best transform these ambitions into priority actions to take forward. Access the IOG Forum Discussion Paper here.

At the high-level opening of the forum on December 14, 2020, Executive Vice President Frans Timmermans and Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries shared their views on recent developments in international ocean governance and on European policy priorities emerging from the consultation process to strengthen initiatives, processes and instruments already in place. A detailed agenda can be found here.

Parallel workshops were also held on 15-16 December, with interactive discussions with stakeholders and experts.
