About us

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is one of the major higher degree public educational institutions in Greece. UoA is the largest state institution of higher learning in Greece, and among the largest universities in Europe. With a student body of about 125,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, over 2, 000 members of academic staff and approximately 1,300 administrative and secretarial staff and specialized personnel, UoA aims at excellence in both teaching and research in a significantly varied range of disciplines. NKUA participates in NEANIAS with two of its Faculties: (i) Faculty of Applied Sciences and the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications and (ii) Faculty of Geology and Geoenvironment and the Department of Geology.

Main role in the project

NKUA’s role in the project is multi-fold: (a) Coordinator of the project, leading both management and technical leadership of the project [WP1] (b) technical provider providing support for integration of services and migration to the cloud [WP5, WP6], (c) leader of activities and user of services in the underwater domain [WP2] (d) user of services in educational direction (e) link to several initiatives, research groups and infrastructures for engagement and for additional cases building.
